Ahhh the good old What makes an excellent Leader discussion.
To be honest, I have taught this topic at University, in business, and around the world for 30 years and you know what I have come up with:

Perception and Presentation make a Leader

Perception from others is how they see you. you could be a great person, wonderfully natured with really great morals and ethics, but if the people you work with think you are a pushover, a need, or too soft then are you a good leader.

Sure but no one cares. You may be hard and firm, demanding and disciplined but some people may like this in a leader. The reality is that the choice is theirs.
Presentation is all about how you see yourself from someone else perspective.

You have to be comfortable with who you are as a person. Morals, ethics, and integrity are all key factors in being a good leader but they are not "All the factors".
People talk about styles and I think this is simply an academic answer to a generic question. Pigeonholing "you" into a category is really bad in my opinion. I have taught these concepts for many years and to be honest, I have seen them do more harm than good. A person needs to be able to express themselves as they see they need to, in order to fit into the environment they are in.

I think that a leader is a person who is adaptable (when needed), understanding (as required), and diverse in their styles (be ready to change), and not constrained by what others say.

A true leader leads from the front is such an overused saying.

I am the head of one of the largest Chefs' organizations in the world and I am not a chef. I am the head because I think I inspire people to be more than they think they are. I am a leader because I choose who I need to act in the situation, rather than being the same all the time.

Excellent leaders are determined by what they do for an and how we perceive them. Someone like Donal Trump is a great leader to many but just as many people think otherwise, so is he a good leader? It's hard to say.

So my thoughts are Perception and Presentation are an area that is overlooked and should be investigated more.

How you see yourself is not always how others see you.
